The 2014 BNE National Championships took place this past Sunday, December 7, 2014 at the BES Auditorium. Over 50 players came out to compete across four categories; the Men's Singles Event, Female Singles Event, Men's Doubles Event and Mixed Doubles Event.

In the Men's Singles category, 32 Males competed for the top spot. Tyrone Tun, Zhi Chen, Billy Musa Jr, and Sen Sen were this year's top seeds going into the event. Billy Musa Jr. was unable to make the event leaving the draw open for other players to step up to the plate and try to make their way to the finals. In the top half, Top Junior player Latrell Solis did just this, making his "run" beating out Daryl Palacio (3-0), SP Chen in the Round of 16 (3 - 0), and Taye Parkinson (one of our youngest junior players, only 9) in the quarterfinals (3-1). Unfortunately, his run came to an end in the semis against Top seed Tyrone Tun, but not without first putting up a fight in what turned out to be quite an impressive match. Latrell opened the match playing very aggressively, winning the first game 11 - 6. Tyrone answered by counterattacking, winning the next game 11 -  8. Latrell regained his focus in the third game and took that 11 - 7. Tyrone then changed his strategy a bit and began playing a bit more conservatively, winning points by forcing the error. He took the penultimate game 11 - 6. With the the score now tied 2-2, both players had to bring out their best game in order to move on to the finals. In the end experience won with Tyrone Tun doing just enough to hold off Latrell's attacks while playing aggressively himself finishing the game 11 - 8. Tyrone Tun moved on into the finals.

In the bottom half, Jorge Espat made a grand comeback after experiencing some poor results over the course of the Brother's Habet Team League Tournament wish recently finished just over a month ago. He made his way to semis beating Cody Rivero (3 - 1), upsetting seed No. 4 Sen Sen in the Round of 16 (12-10, 9-11, 12-10, 9-11, 11-4), and beating 5th seeded player Nicholas Martin (3-0) in the Quarter Finals. Jorge Espat's impressive run came to an end in the semis losing 3 - 0 to No. 1 seed Zhi Chen. BTTA President, Arturo Vasquez, led the Award Ceremonies, with Technical Director, Gabriel Guerrero, assisting with the presentation of Trophies. 24 Trophies were presented to all the winners.
Marion Usher, representing the sponsor Belize Natural Energy, thanked the BTTA for the opportunity to support the development of table tennis and promises to continue to sponsor both the Junior National Championships and the National Championships Events.

This year has definitely shown to be the year of the Junior players with many of them quickly moving up the ranks and making their presence known at the highest level of the game, with several of them participating at this event and performing exceedingly well. Our Association has recognized this and so this year has decided for the first time to present a Junior Player of the Year Award. This Award was presented by Marion Usher to Latrell Solis, who is the current Number 1 ranked Junior player, as well as this year's 15 and Under Junior National Champion and National Championships Semifinalist. Though many of our Junior players are as deserving of this title, Latrell Solis has continuously been able to make semifinals or better in a great majority of the junior events we have hosted over the year, including our National Events.

Additionally, in an effort to further encourage our Junior Players and show our commitment to their development, the BTTA has initiated the BTTA Educational Assistance Program which is an initiative to promote financial assistance to our Junior Players who not only show exemplary sportsmanship and perform well in the game, but also work equally as hard in their school work. Latrell Solis was presented with a certificate honoring him as the first beneficiary of this program. He will receive financial assistance over the next four years provided that he continues to play and does well in his studies.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the Winners, and a big THANK YOU to BELIZE NATURAL ENERGY for sponsoring this event.

THANK YOU also goes out to all the players, participants, spectators and organizers of this year's event. You have made 2014 a very productive year. We know we can count on you to make 2015 even better.

Lastly, a final Thank You to Board Members Nicholas Martin and Wilfredo Chang who prepared the complimentary Hot Dogs and Sodas that were shared at the closing of the tournament.

We wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Years and we hope to see you again Next Year.
