2013 bne junior national championships

The 2013 BNE JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS took place this Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Belize Elementary School Auditorium.

The competition began at about 9:30 with competition in three different Junior Categories. Competition FORMAT for the event was KNOCK OUT. "One lost and you are out!!!"

In the 12UNDER category, there were some 20 participants vying for the NATIONAL CHAMPIONS title. With some new comers and even level of competition, this category was open to all participating players to take the title.

The result was as follows:
12UNDER CATEGORY
1st - Alexis Tun
2nd - Samron Pott
3rd - Jaylen Nicholson
4th - Terry Su

In the 15UNDER category, there were 22 participants, with 2012 past champion, and top seed in this division, Fabio Carballo, back to defend his title. #2 seed Joshua Gegg was also in the line up for the title.

Making it to the semi-finals were Fabio Carballo, Mario Galindo, Trevon Brown and Josuha Gegg,

Fabio defeated Gegg (3-2) in a very closely contested finals to take the title once again.

The results were as follows:
15UNDER CATEGORY
1st - Fabio Carballo
2nd - Joshua Gegg
3rd - Trevon Brown
4th - Mario Galindo

In the higher category of the 18UNDER,there was a full 32 draw of players competing for this title. Some younger players from the lower categories chose to play up into this category. 

Once such player was Fabio Carballo, who came into this category as the #2 seed player, with #1 seed Harim Ochaeta at the top of the draw.

Making it to the semi-finals were Harim Ochaeta, Gian Lisbey, Joshua Gegg and Fabio Carballo.

Ochaeta took out Lisbey with a score of 3-0 to advance to the finals, with Carballo defeating Gegg 3-2 to also advance to the finals against Ochaeta.

Carballo took the top spot by defeating Ochaeta 3-1, thereby taking home two of the three CHAMPIONSHIP titles in 2013.

In the end the results were as follows:
18UNDER CATEGORY
1st - Fabio Carballo
2nd - Harim Ochaeta
3rd - Gian Lisbey
4th - Joshua Gegg

Final matches took place around 1:30PM with the awards presentations taking place right after.

Trophies were awarded to all the top 4 position in all 3 categories donated by the sponsors Belize Natural Energy, who has been the sponsor of the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS since 2010.

The trophies were presented by the BTTA Membership Director, Mrs. Carballo, and BTTA Schools Coordinator, Miss Arnold.

The president of the BTTA thanked the players, participants, spectators, parents, organizers and the especially the sponsors for a successful event. 

The President also emphasized the priority of the BTTA in the development of the sport withing the junior players, with this even culmination a year of development in the junior players with over 80 junior players having participated in tournaments during 2013.

This event closed the 2013 season as we move into the Christmas Holidays.

A Merry Christmas and a Prosperous Happy New Year to all from the Belize Table Tennis Association.

Looking forward to an even better 2014 development of table tennis, with the 2014 Calendar of Events soon to be released.

2013 BNE NATIONAL SENIOR TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS

The 2013 BNE NATIONAL TABLE TENNIS CHAMPIONSHIPS took place this past Sunday at the Belize Elementary School auditorium.
 
Games started at 9:30AM with competitions in Men Singles, Ladies Singles, Men's Doubles & Mixed Doubles.

In the Men Singles, there were 32 players competing for the top spot.with all the top players participating.

In the top half of the draw, #1 seed Tyrone Tun made it all the Finals by defeating #4 seed Tux Vasquez in the Semi Finals..

In the bottom half #9 seed Ian McField made it all the way to the finals by defeating #2 seed Carlos Cui in the Semi finals. 

In the end the results were as follows:  
MEN SINGLES
1st - Tyrone Tun
2nd - Ian McField
3rd - Carlos Cui
4th - Tux Vasquez

In the Women Singles there were 6 players competing with current Champion, Petie Matus making it all the way to the Finals.

In the bottom half, Su Sen made it to the finals by defeating new comer Dalena Lessa & Samira Pott.

In the Mixed Doubles, there were also 6 entries.
In the top half of the draw, Hector Lopez & Su Sen made it to the finals by defeating Bryton Codd & Nikki Chen.
In the bottom half, Tux Vasquez & Petie Matus made it to the finals by defeating Stepen Zitzer & Dalena Lesso, as well as Samira Pott & Samron Pott.

The final results were as follows:

In the Mens Doubles there were 16 doubles entries competing for this title. filled with all the top seed players, this was a heavy contested event.

In the top half of the draw, top seed Carlos Cui and Sen Sen made it to the Semi Finals where they defeated Armando Gomez & Amir Grajalez to advance to the finals.

In the bottom half #1 seed Tyrone Tun and Billy Musa Jr. made it to the Semi Finals where they defeated Tux Vasquez & Ian McField to make it to the finals.

The final results were as follows:

The president of the BTTA closed the event by thanking all the players, participants, organizers, supporters, spectators, and especially the sponsors in making this NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS a great success.

He also reminded the public that the 2013 BNE JUNIOR NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS is schedule to take place this coming Sunday, December 15, 2013 @ 9:00AM at the BES Auditorium.

This event is now split into two seperate events, the SENIOR NATIONALS and the JUNIOR NATIONALS, and will continue to be for the coming years.

With the increase amount of Junior players that are now participating in table tennis, it has become necessary to have the JUNIOR players compete in their own categories.

The JUNIOR NATIONALS will comprise of 18UNDER. 15UNDER & 12UNDER categories.

KAYLA ARNOLD  SCHOOLS DEVELOPMENT COORDINATOR

Miss Kayla Arnold - Schools Development Coordinator

Miss Kayla Arnold was appointed the new post of "Schools Development Coordinator" in October 2013.

Her overall tasks is to coordinate the development of table tennis in the local schools, which is a "full time" position implemented by the BTTA.

This is a new iniciative by the BTTA, in the development of table tennis among the younger school kids, in which Kayla shall maintains a daily schedule of visiting several schools to implement table tennis programs.

The program includes the implementation of weekly practices and development of the junior players, as well as the identifying of talented players to participate in local national tournaments.

Weekly reporting to the BTTA Executive shall include a detail programs and activities report, with quarterly reports of total participants and talent identification from within the schools in the program. 

Kayla is a ITTF Level 1 Coach, and former primary school teacher.

2013 brothers habet team league - concludes

After 2 1/2 months of competition, the 2013 5th ANNUAL brothers HABET TEAM LEAGUE FINALS concluded yesterday Sunday, November 24, 2013 at the BES Auditorium.

The competition began in the morning with the first round of the KNOCK OUT competition to in all three divisions.

The FIRST DIVISION saw Team PING PANG and Team CUZ competing with Team PING PANG advancing to the finals. 
The bottom half of the draw saw Team WELDERS and Team HURRICANE competing with Team HURRICANE advancing to the finals.
The final results of the 1st DIVISION was as follows:

Mr. Habet congratulated the association for a successful tournament and also thanks them for allowing his company to be a part of the development of table tennis. brothers HABET has been the original sponsor of this event for 5 years, and will continue to provide support to this event.

2013 is the first year that this event has included a THIRD DIVISION, which caters to the development of the junior players. Also making the event bigger in participation numbers.

Some 21 teams competed in this years event.

RESULTS OF XV Central American Table Tennis Masters Championships
September 13-15, 2013

The XV Central American Table Tennis Masters Championships concluded yesterday, September 15, 2013 at the Belize Elementary School auditorium.
 
Opening ceremonies were held where the President of the BTTA and the Central American Federation gave their welcoming remarks. President of the Belize Olympic Committee, Mr. Hilly Martinez also gave a few words and the Minister of Sports, Hon. Herman Longsworth then declared the games officially open.

After two day of competition between the Central American countries the results were as follows.

The Team Event took place on Saturday with a Knockout format in all the different age categories.

2013 BRODIES STRONG & WEAK DOUBLES TOURNAMENT

he 2013 BRODIES STRONG & WEAK DOUBLE TOURNAMENT took place this past Sunday, July 14, 2013 at the Belize Elementary School Auditorium.

16 Doubles pairs participated in the DOUBLE ELIMINATION tournament format.

Games started at 10:00 and continued throughout the day with some 32 matches taking place,

Final results of the event was as follows:

 Prizes were awarded to the winners, by sponsor BRODIES.

Billy Musa Jr., representing the sponsor BRODIES, was on hand to deliver the trophies to the winners. He thanked the association for the opportunity to sponsor the event, and promised to make it an annual event.

For the first time, cash prizes were also awarded to the top 4 finishers.

We thank the sponsors, participants, spectators, and organizers of this event for another successful tournament.

The sponsors also provided free Monster Energy Drinks throughout the day to all participants.

2013 - 5th Annual general meeting (agm) concludes

The 5th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the Belize Table Tennis Association (BTTA) took place on Saturday, July 13, 2013 at the Belize Elementary Auditorium "the home of table tennis".

The meeting started at approximately 2:00Pm. In attendance at this years AGM were 32 BTTA members, including the Executive Committee members.

The Agenda included the acceptance of the 4th AGM minutes, as well as the Directors reports. This comprised of the Presidents "year in review" report, as well as the Tournament Committee report on the 2012 Tournament Calendar and its successful completion of all event that were planned for 2012.

Also presented to the membership was the Financial Report for year 2012. 

Copies of the meetings Agenda, minutes of the 2012 4th AGM, as well as full balance sheet and Income/Expense statements for year 2012 was provided.

Membership fees remain unchanged, and the acceptance of the auditors was deferred by majority vote.

 

Members expressed their views on a few items in the "other matters" section of the meeting. 

The meeting concluded at around 3;15PM

The BTTA Executive is very much satisfied with having had another successful AGM, that included membership participation.

 With this year not being an election year, the Executive Committee remains unchanged.

2013 Barrow & Williams SUMMER OPEN TOURNAMENT

The 2013 Barrow & Williams SUMMER OPEN TABLE TENNIS TOURNAMENT took place yesterday Sunday June 30, 2013 at the Belize Elementary School auditorium, "the home of table tennis".

Games started at around 9:30AM with some 50 plus players competing in three different categories.

In the OPEN CATEGORY, some 32 players started out in a DOUBLE ELIMINATION format competition with the final results as follows:

We are please to introduce you to Mrs. Janine Carballo, our new Membership Director for the Belize Table Tennis Association (BTTA).
 
Mrs. Carballo will immediately assume the position of Membership Director and will continue the work of promoting membership relations and assisting in all areas as it relates to membership development.

Her immediate responsibilities shall be to develop the membership of the BTTA, by improving communication and the development of new initiatives for development.

She will also assist the BTTA Tournament Committee in the organization and registration  of membership participation in tournaments.

2013 RF&G 2ND BI-ANNUAL NATIONAL RANKING TOURNAMENT

The 2013 RF&G 2nd Bi-Annual NATIONAL RANKING Tournament took place this weekend at the Belize Elementary School Auditorium on Mercy Lane. "the home of table tennis".

With four different Divisions, A, B, C & WOMEN, and some 66 players taking part, the event started on Saturday, June 1, 2013 with the C Division ROUND ROBIN competition. 

The competition continued on Sunday, June 2, 2013 with ROUND ROBIN competition in all Divisions.

Competition format was a ROUND ROBIN qualification round, from which the top 2 from each group would advance to the DOUBLE ELIMINATION FINALS in each Division.

In the A DIVISION, 5 of the top senior players competed with 4 making it to the DOUBLE ELIMINATION FINALS. The final results were as follows:

A DIVISION

The SMART 2nd Bi-Annual JUNIOR RANKING Tournament took place this Saturday & Sunday, May 18 & 19, 2013, at the BES auditorium, "the home of table tennis".

The event started on Saturday with the ROUND ROBIN Elimination competition, and continued on Sunday with the DOUBLE ELIMINATION FINALS.

After some 360 plus matches and some 65 junior players, ranging from ages 7 to 18, the competition concluded on Sunday with winners in all three categories.

 18-UNDER CATEGORY

 15UNDER CATEGORY

Representative from SMART, Ian Courtenay, was on hand to deliver trophies to all the winners.

Also awarded was Taye Parkinson, the youngest player at 7 years old who showed enthusiasm and sportsmanship by winning many games in the competition. He was awarded a new table tennis racket.

2013 1st annual don omario's cup concludes

Fabio Carballo  wins 1st Annual Don Omario's CUP - Harim Ochaeta 2nd Place

 The 2013 1st Annual Don Omario's 18Under CUP too place this past Saturday, April 27, 2013 at the BES Auditorium,"the home of table tennis".

Starting at approximately 1:00PM, with 32 young and energetic youths under 18 years of age, the event was a 32 Double Elimination competition format.

Coming in as top seed players into the competition were Fabio Carballo, Harim Ochaeta, Joshua Gegg, Aaron Stock, Daniel Sanchez, Mishek Musa, Gian Lisbey, and Zachary Ortiz.

At the top of the draw #1 seed Fabio Carballo did an excellent job of advancing all the way to the Finals undefeated. Along the way he defeated Daniel Echeverria, Daniel Sanchez, MIshek Musa, and Aaron Stock.

At the bottom of the draw, #2 seed Harim Ochaeta also advanced to the finals by defeating Issac Hinds, Daryl Palacio, Tristan Flowers, and then falling to Aaron Stock which put him in the "losers bracket". Ochaeta however survived that bracket by defeating Joshua Gegg, Gian Lisbey, and finally Aaron Stock to advance to the finals against Carballo.

In a very exciting and close match, Carballo took the CHAMPIONSHIP in the final games against Ochaeta by a score of 3-1. 

#3 seed Aaron Stock manage to maintain his position in this event by coming in 3rd, by defeating Akeen Avila, Trevon Brown, Gian Lisbey and Harim Ochaeta, before falling to Fabio Carballo, which sent him into the losers bracket. He then lost to Ochaeta to give him the 3rd position in this event.

#7 seed Gian Lisbey did improve his final position by taking the 4th place in this event by defeating Carlos Tenero, Devon Tillett, and then falling to Stock which sent him to the losers bracket. He rebounded in that bracket by defeating Henry Miguel, Trevon Brown, MIshek Musa, and finally losing to Ochaeta, fiving him the 4th position in this event.

All 32 young players played exceptionally well and showed very competitive spirits through the event.

3rd - Aaron Stock - SJC-JC
4th - Gian Lisbey - SJC
 

Players came from SJC, St. Marys, St. Joseph, and BES schools.

This was the inaugural event of the Don Omario's 18Under CUP, which is expected to be an annual event.

The CHAMPION gets to keep the CUP for 1 year until the event repeats in 2014. Any player that wins the CUP three time, will get to keep the CUP.

Don Omario was a table tennis player in his time. His company, Travellers Limited is providing sponsorship for young players by sponsoring this 18Under event. 

We CONGRATULATE all the winners and say THANK YOU to all the players, organizers, spectators, and all the schools for participating. Due to PSE preparations some other players were unable to participate.

2013 - 3rd Annual "5 BARREL" Veterans Championships

Carlos Cui - wins 3rd Annual 2013 Veterans Championship

 The Belize Elementary School Auditorium, "the home of table tennis", was the venue yesterday, Sunday April 21, 2013 of the 2013 - 3rd Annual Veterans "5 BARREL" Veterans Table Tennis Championships.

Starting at approximately 10:00AM, some 16 veteran table tennis players started off the Double Elimination format competition.

The four players to make it to the final 4 were, top seed Carlos Cui, Billy Musa Jr., Dan Habet, and Sui Pan Chen.

Carlos made it to the finals by defeating Toni Liu, Harold Young, Yasser Musa, and then Dan Habet to reach the finals.

Billy Musa Jr. had a little more difficulty in making it to the finals by first winning against Hector Lopez, then losing to Dan Habet that then out him in the "loser bracket" where he had to fight his way back. He did so by defeating Francis Gegg, Hector Lopez, Yasser Musa, Sui Pan Chen, and finally Dan Habet.  

Carlos Cui and Billy Musa Jr. played a very exciting finals with Cui winning in the end by a score of 3-0. Despite the score, all three games were closely contested, with both players, at some point having a clean advantage and in a position to take the title. Musa did give the current champion a "run for the title"

Back-to-back champion Carlos Cui took home the title once again in 2013,

The final 4 positions were as follows:

2nd - Billy Musa Jr.
3rd - Dan Habet (San Ignacio)
4th - Sui Pan Chen (Dangriga)

2013 - 2nd Annual DUTCH LADY PRIMARY SCHOOL TOURNAMENT

 The Belize Elementary School Auditorium, "the home of table tennis" was the venue for this years 2013 - 2nd Annual "DUTCH LADY" Primary School Table Tennis Tournament.

The action started at about 9:15 on Friday March 15, 2013 with the playing of the Belize National Anthem by Carlos Cui and his duo, followed by some short comments and some rules of the day.

With some 59 Primary School student from 7 Primary Schools signed up to compete, the event started with the first round of 8 ROUND ROBIN GROUPS, from which the top 2 in each group would advance to the FINAL DOUBLE ELIMINATION ROUND.

After 189 games in the ROUND ROBIN event was finish, the top 16 players advanced to the DOUBLE ELIMINATION ROUND. 

Advancing were top seed, Matthew Usher, Edwin Quan, Amiri Hoare, Jayden NIcholson, Alexis Tun, Tyriek Rodriguer, Mario Galindo, Luis Bardalez, Rohan Gillett, Michael Siguro, Samrom Pott, Harsh Khatwani, Bjourne Gabourel, Tristan Flowers,
Trevon Brown and Nelson Zayden.

In the upper half of the DOUBLE ELIMINATION 2012 Champion Matthew Usher from Belize Elementary made it all the way to the finals undefeated by elimination Amiri Hoare, Luis Bardalez and Trevon Brown.

In the lower half, Trevon Brown from St. Joseph Primary made it to the Semi-finals by defeating Nelson Zayden, Bjourne Gabourel and Harsh Khatwani. He then lost to Matthew Usher and had to go to the "losers bracket", where he manage to defeat Harsh Khatwani to once again meet Usher for the finals. Usher took the title by winning 3-0 over Brown for the second year in a row.

After some 219 table tennis matches the tournament came to an end.
 
The final results were as follows:
1st - Matthew Usher - Belize Elementary School
2nd - Trevon Brown - St. Joseph Primary School
3rd - Harsh Khatwani - Hummingbird Elementary School
4th - Edwin Quan - Belize Elementary School

Belize Elementary School once again regain the COMPETITION CUP which stays with the winning school for another year. If BES can win again in 2014 they will get to keep the CUP. We have to wait and see what happens next year, as Matthew Usher will have moved on to high school by then.

Schools represented this year were, St. Marys Primary School, Wesley Upper School, Belize Elementary, St. Joseph Primary, Hummingbird Elementary, Calvary Temple Primary and St. Ignatius Primary.

The competition is proving to be a success with an increase in schools participating this year.

Sponsors of the event were DUTCH LADY who provided gift packages for all the participants, with the top 4 winners receiving extra "goodies" from SEVEN SEAS.

Trophies were awarded to the top 4 finishers in the event, and a Certificate of Participation was also given to all the 59 participants.

On hand representing the SPONSORS was Mrs. Aisha Trapp Rudon, Marketing Manager for the San Cas Group of Companies, who delivered the prizes and also congratulated the winners and the BTTA for a good tournament. She also confirmed her companies continued commitment to the development of table tennis and to the continued annual sponsorship of this school event.

President of the BTTA also thanked the sponsors, participants, schools, parents and organizers for their continued support of table tennis.

The 2013 RF&G Bi-Annual NATIONAL RANKING TOURNAMENT took place yesterday, Sunday March 3, 2013 at the BES auditorium, "the home of table tennis".


Competition was in 4 different categories. A-DIVISION, B-DIVISION, C-DIVISION and WOMEN DIVISION.

Some 67 players starting out at around 9:30AM in the ROUND ROBIN group competition in the morning, with the top 2 from each group advancing to the DOUBLE ELIMINATION FINAL round.

In the end the results were as follows:

1963 BRITISH HONDURAS NATIONAL TABLE TENNIS CHAMP VISITS BELIZE

George Lamb won the 1963 BRITISH HONDURAS NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIPS in 1963 by defeating Orlando Rhamdas in a closely contested match "down to the wire". George shared his experiences with us while he was in Belize. He shared his photographs and verbally explained his 1963 Championship win, as well as his opportunity to play agains Richard Bergmann and Chou Lin Chen, both International Table Tennis Champions who were visiting British Honduras at the time.

The 2013 SMART Bi-Annual JUNIOR RANKING TOURNAMENT took place this past Saturday at the BES Auditorium "the home of table tennis".

With some 72 participants ranging from ages 7 to 18, and from high schools and several primary schools, the first SMART JUNIOR RANKING "kicked off" at around 1:00PM on Saturday afternoon.
Three categories were being contested, these being 18UNDER, 15UNDER & 12UNDER.

The tournament started with a ROUND ROBIN groups, from which the top two from each group would advance to a FINAL DOUBLE ELIMINATION competition.

The 18UNDER CATEGORY started off with 19 players divided into 4 ROUND ROBIN GROUPS, from which the 8 top finishers advanced to the DOUBLE ELIMINATION Championship FINALS.
Top seed Harim Ochaeta, and Fabio Carballo, along with Daniel Sanchez, Gian Lisbey, Joshua Gegg, Aaron Stock, Ashar Arthurs and Matthew Usher all advanced to the final event.

Fabio Carballo made it to the finals by defeating Usher and Stock. Harim Ochaeta, on the other hand, had a more difficult time after losing his first match to Sanchez, taking him into the "losers bracket" in the DOUBLE ELIMINATION event. Ochaeta however, made his way back by defeating Lisbey, Stock, Usher and then redeeming himself again Sanchez, whom he has lost to earlier.

With Carballo haven't lost any match, Ochaeta had to defeat him twice to take the 18UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP position.

In the end, the results wereas follows:
18UNDER CATEGORY
1st - Harim Ochaeta
2nd - Fabio Carballo
3rd - Daniel Sanchez
4th - Matthew Usher

In the 15UNDER CATEGORY, a bigger group started with some 33 players starting off in 8 ROUND ROBIN GROUPS. Once again the top 2 from each group advanced to the FINAL DOUBLE ELIMINATION round. This resulted in 16 players advancing to that round.

Fabio Carballo, once again was the top seed in this category, along with Matthew Usher. Several new comers were in the category, who demonstrated very good talent and competitive skills to give these top seed good competition.
Advancing along with Carballo and Usher were, Devon Tillett, Trevon Brown, Harsh Katwani, Daniel Echeverria, Orville Leal,Daryl Palacio, Joshua Gegg, Ashar Arthurs, Nelson Zayden, Zack Ortiz, Denzel Young, Edwin Quan and Tyriek Rodriguez.

Carballo again made it to the semi-finals by defeating Tillett, Kathwani, and Gegg, then losing to Usher, putting him into the losers bracket where he had to defeat top seed Joshua Gegg, once again, to face off with Usher in the finals.

Usher on the other hand made it through to the finals by defeating Rodriguez, Quan, Arthurs, and Carballo. 

This time Carballo had to defeat Usher twice to take the 15UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP position.

The results were as follows:
15UNDER CATEGORY
1st - Fabio Carballo
2nd - Matthew Usher
3rd - Joshua Gegg
4th - Ashar Arthurs

The 12 UNDER CATEGORY started off with 20 players in a 4 group ROUND ROBIN, with the top 8 advancing to the FINAL DOUBLE ELIMINATION.
With many new comers in this junior category, the winner positions were completely open to any of the 8 finalists. In the end, Bjorne Gabourel proved to be the best player by advancing to the finals by defeating Samron Pott, Alexis Tun and Tristan Flowers.
Alexis Tun, on the other hand, made his way to the finals by defeating Latrel Solis, then losing to Gabourel, and then taking out Amiri Hoare and Tristan Flowers to once again face off with Gabourel. 
In the end Gabourel proved to be the better player once again by defeating Tun 3-0 and taking the 12UNDER CHAMPIONSHIP spot. 

All finalists in the category are from St. Joseph Primary School.

Final results were as follows:
12UNDER CATEGORY
1st - Bjourne Gabourel
2nd - Alexis Tun
3rd - Tristan Flowers
4th - Amiri Hoare

After some 190 games played over some 7 hours, the even came to an end. On hand to present the trophies was Ian Courtenay, PR Manager for SMART, sponsors of this event. Courtenay expressed his appreciation to be a part of the table tennis development, and pledged to continue to provide the support to the sport of table tennis and to the BTTA. With the junior players being of great priority to the BTTA, SMART has comitted to assist in this area during 2013.

President of the BTTA, Tux Vasquez thanked the sponsors, participants, parents, teachers, organizers, umpires and referees in making this event a great success. With over 72 junior players participating in this new event, it certainly give the feel of accomplishment and encouragement to go on, with the development of our sport of table tennis.

The BTTA is committed to the development of the junior players, and it is through event like this one that the young players will get a chance to compete and develop into better players.

The 2nd Annual SJC Table Tennis Club Tournament took place this past Saturday, January 27, 2013 @ the Belize Elementary School Auditorium, "the home of table tennis....!!"

Games kicked off at approximately 1:30PM with some 42 students participating in three categories. ADVANCE, INTERMEDIATE & BEGINNERS.

In the ADVANCE category 12 of the top players from SJC competed in Round Robin competition with the top 8 finishers from the Round Robin advancing to a FINAL Double Elimination competition.

Top seed, Harim Ochaeta advance to the finals by defeating Leo Carballo, Gian Lisbey & Fabio Carballo, while Fabio Carballo also advance to the finals by defeating Daniel Sanchez & Mishek Musa. In the Final match Harim Ochaeta emerged the CHAMPION by defeating Carballo by a score of 3-1.

The final results were:

ADVANCE CATEGORY
1st - Harim Ochaeta
2nd - Fabio Carballo
3rd - Mishek Musa
4th - Daniel Sanchez

In the INTERMEDIATE category, 12 players also competed in a Round Robin competition with the top 8 finishers advancing to a FINAL Double Elimination competition.
Daniel Echeverria advance to the finals by defeating Michael Teng,Gavin Wong & Zacharey Garbutt. while Garbutt also made it to the finals by defeating Johann Ketz, Isaac Hines & Ashley Weller. Daniel Echeverria took the Championship by defeating Zachary Garbutt 3-0.

The final results were:

INTERMEDIATE CATEGORY
1st - Daniel Echeverria
2nd - Zachary Garbutt
3rd- Ashley Weller
4th - Issac Hines

In the BEGINNERS Category, 18 students began the Round Robin competition with the top 8 advancing to the FINAL Double Elimination competition.
Ryan Vellos made it to the FINALS by defeating Alexya Perez, Samuel Ferguson & Denzel Young, while Young made it to the FINALS by defeating Cohen wong, Brandon Usher & Henry Miguel. In the FINALS Ryan Vellos took the CHAMPIONSHIP by defeating Denzel Young by a score of 3-2.

The final results were:

BEGINNERS CATEGORY

3rd - Henry Miguel
4th - Samuel Ferguson

Mr. Yasser Musa, head of the SJC Table Tennis Club and Mrs. Yolanda Gongora, Head Master of SJC, were on hand to deliver the medals to all the winners. Musa expressed his sincere appreciation to all the participants and to the support of the BTTA in assisting with organizing of the event. He thanked all the student for their competitive spirit and for making the event a success. President of the BTTA, tux Vasquez was also on to deliver the message to the students that it is the prioroty of the BTTA to develop the sport of table tennis in the schools and students. 2013 calendar of event now include exclusive event for the 18 and younger categories of students.

Medals were awarded to the top four finishers in each category.

CONGRATULATIONS to all the winners, and THANK YOU to all the organizers, participants, spectators, parents and students that took part in this annual event. It is encouraging to see the young table tennis players participating and competing in this annual event.
